Long-sealed Watergate documents that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation may be released

The U.S. Department of Justice responded Friday, June 1, to a request by a Texas history professor who is seeking access to materials he believes could help answer lingering questions about the burglary that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation.

President Nixon tells a White House news conference that he will not allow his legal counsel, John Dean, to testify on Capitol Hill in the Watergate investigation and challenged the Senate to test him in the Supreme Court.
